Two more provinces contribute to GeoBase's National Road Network 2.0
February 1, 2008
Alberta's Ministry of Transportation signed an agreement recently to participate in the latest generation of the GeoBase National Road Network (NRN v 2.0). This deal came just weeks after British Columbia signed a similar three-party agreement with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Statistics Canada.
The latest NRN 2.0 data profile features place names, street names, and address ranges between intersections. The first NRN 2.0 dataset from Nova Scotia was released in October, 2007. Negotiations are ongoing with provincial and territorial governments in Ontario, Quebec, and Yukon.
"Road network data is crucial framework data that provides the underpinning of many geomatics applications such as mapping, routing, emergency response, and analyzing census data," explained Éric Loubier, Program Manager for the NRCan Earth Sciences Sector contribution to the GeoBase program in Sherbrooke.
The NRN 2.0 datasets for Alberta and B.C. will be published at this website in late spring. GeoBase data is available to all without cost or restrictions, and under a common license.
